The client

Camden Council is dedicated to creating employment opportunities for local residents, ensuring that young people have access to valuable work experience. Our partnership with the council started in early 2013, supporting their workforce initiatives through our Matrix Talent Pool solution.

The challenge

Camden Council is dedicated to creating meaningful employment opportunities for young residents, equipping them with the skills and experience needed for future careers. As part of this mission, the council sought to provide young people with valuable work experience in their onsite coffee shop (Honest Grind Coffee).

However, they needed a streamlined process to identify, onboard, and support these candidates effectively, ensuring a smooth transition into trainee roles. Because the initiative is set up to support some of London’s most vulnerable young people, getting this process right was paramount.

Our solution

To address this challenge, Camden partnered with our Matrix Talent Pool solution to leverage a bespoke Camden Talent Pool specifically designed for these opportunities. Young people identified for the roles were invited to join the Camden Talent Pool, giving them direct access to apply for trainee positions in the coffee shop.

Once selected, candidates were connected with our Matrix Payroll solution, where they underwent a structured onboarding process. To ensure an efficient experience, our Matrix Talent Pool Coordinator played a crucial role in providing guidance, support, and advice throughout the process:

  • Efficient Onboarding: Candidates were well-prepared and confident in their new roles, allowing them to flourish while they learned new skills
  • Lifelong Learning: Because they were supported every step of the way, candidates could transition into the world of work effectively

The results

  • Seamless onboarding process for all candidates
  • Valuable employment opportunities for 13 trainees
  • Development of key customer service skills

The outcome

Our partnership with Camden Council has considerably improved the onboarding process for its Honest Grind Coffee candidates, getting them ready for the world of work as quickly as possible:

  • Employment Ready: Through Matrix Talent Pool, we’ve facilitated 13 placements into trainee roles, helping Camden’s most vulnerable people get into work
  • Skill Development: With an efficient onboarding process, young people could quickly start learning transferable customer service skills, and get paid for their efforts
