Four easy steps to an Enhanced DBS Check for Self Employed Professionals
Step 1: Confirm Your Eligibility

You cannot apply directly to DBS as an individual for this level of check. Your application is submitted through us as an approved Umbrella Body, with guidance at every stage.
Step 3: Complete your digital identity check
You will complete a digital identity check through our trusted partner, a Home Office-certified Identity Service Provider. See our below Digital ID requirements guidance.
Step 4: Receive your DBS certificate
Once processed by the DBS, your certificate is issued to you. You can then share it with clients or organisations who require proof of your enhanced disclosure.

Your application must be processed through a Registered Body or Umbrella Body, such as Security Watchdog.

This route is designed for paid self-employed individuals and personal employees whose work justifies an Enhanced level check.
No. Even where you are eligible for an Enhanced DBS check as a self-employed professional, you cannot apply directly to DBS as an individual. Your application must be processed through a Registered Body or Umbrella Body.
