Enhanced DBS Checks are only available for eligible roles. The information you provide will help us understand your work, confirm the type of check you need and guide you through the next steps.

BEFORE YOU APPLY
To apply for an Enhanced DBS check as a self-employed professional, you must:
- Be paid for the work you carry out
- Be applying for a role that meets DBS eligibility for an Enhanced or Enhanced with Barred List check
- Complete a digital identity check using approved identity documents
- Provide accurate details about the type of work you do
- This route is NOT for volunteers. If you are a volunteer looking for DBS Checks, your employer will need to request one on your behalf at Employee DBS checks for Organisations

DIGITAL ID REQUIREMENTS
What you need before starting your Enhanced DBS application
All self-employed professional Enhanced DBS applications require a digital identity check through a Home Office-certified Identity Service Provider. You will need two approved identity documents:
If you are a UK or Irish citizen with a biometric passport:
- Document 1: UK or Irish biometric passport or passport card (can be expired within the last 6 months)
- Document 2: UK, EU or EEA driving licence
If you are a non-UK citizen with a biometric identity document:
- Document 1: A biometric passport that meets ICAO e-passport standards or an EU/EEA biometric national ID card that follows EC 2252/2004
- Document 2: UK, EU or EEA driving licence
