The client

From nurses and complementary therapists to shop workers and fundraisers, Marie Curie employees more than 4,000 staff who are dedicated to helping people during some of the most difficult times of their lives.

Since 2018, we have worked with Marie Curie to support their need for temporary agency staff across multiple UK locations, including remote and isolated sites. Our approach focused on building a robust supply chain and fostering greater connectivity among their units.

The challenge

Before we became a partner, Marie Curie faced several key challenges. Because many of their staff work in remote locations, feeling disconnected from the organisation was a big problem for employees. This geographical isolation also meant existing suppliers struggling to meet staffing needs, leading to an insufficient supply chain and inconsistent rates for covered shifts.

Our solution

Understanding the need for an engaged and connected workforce to properly support the public, we implemented a tailored strategy to address these issues:

  • Strengthened Supply Chain: Collaborated with Marie Curie’s existing suppliers and onboarded new local providers to create a high-performing, comprehensive supply chain
  • Proactive Engagement: Hosted immersion days to train Hiring Managers on the system, ensuring they felt confident and supported
  • Standardised Rates: Unified supplier rates across the board to eliminate overcharging and deliver consistent savings
  • 24/7 Communication: Established direct access to our Account Management team, fostering a sense of connection and support for all units

The results

  • Eliminated isolation across the network, with a unified source of truth for all staff and suppliers
  • Improvements to fulfilment rates: 95.2%
  • Total savings: £342,000+

The outcome

Through our proactive approach and dedicated teams, our partnership delivered measurable improvements:

  • Enhanced Connectivity: 24/7 communication reduced the feeling of detachment in remote units
  • Increased Coverage: Doubled the number of suppliers in the supply chain, significantly improving shift fulfilment even in remote locations – resulting in 95.2% fulfilment
  • Consistent Savings: Standardised rates eliminated overcharging, ensuring consistent and fair pricing

These benefits came together to save Marie Curie more than £342,000, which the charity was able to redirect back into the business to improve the quality of service it delivers its customers all across the UK.

By focusing on collaboration, innovation, and efficiency, we helped Marie Curie overcome their workforce challenges and achieve sustainable success.
