JOSCAR: What It Is and Why It Matters When Choosing a Screening Provider

What is a JOSCAR accreditation?

The Joint Supply Chain Accreditation Register (JOSCAR) is a supplier assurance scheme created by ADS, the UK trade body for the aerospace, defence, security and space sectors. JOSCAR accreditation shows that a supplier’s information has been independently checked against a standardised set of requirements.

Suppliers complete one standardised assessment, and the information is checked and held centrally. Participating buyers can then access it, instead of sending their own questionnaires to every supplier.

Why is supplier assurance important?

When you appoint a background screening provider, you are trusting them with personal data, with decisions that affect your people, and with your organisation’s compliance position. Independent assurance gives you evidence to support that trust, so you aren’t relying only on a supplier’s own claims.

A JOSCAR review looks at the management systems and processes behind a business, including:

  • Governance and legal standing
  • Financial heath and insurance
  • Quality management
  • Health and safety environmental practice
  • Business continuity
  • Cyber security and data privacy

What does JOSCAR accreditation tell you as a buyer?

Independent checking: A third party has reviewed the supplier’s information. It is not self-certified.

A consistent standard: Every supplier answers the same questions, which makes comparing providers easier.

Information that stays current: JOSCAR qualification must be renewed, so the information isn’t a one-off snapshot.

Less admin for your team: Much of the due diligence your procurement and compliance teams would request is already in one place.

Security Watchdog is now JOSCAR compliant

We’re pleased to share that Security Watchdog has achieved JOSCAR accreditation and is now JOSCAR compliant. Our governance, financial standing, insurance, quality, cyber security and data protection information has been independently reviewed, and it is available to buyers who use the register.

For organisations that already use JOSCAR, that means a quicker route to the assurance information they need. For everyone else, our JOSCAR accreditation is another independent check on how we run our business.

If you’d like to see our assurance information as part of a tender or supplier review, get in touch and we’ll point you in the right direction.
